Im Ulviyya Fataliyeva takes sole lead in the European Women’s Chess Championship 2024

IM Ulviyya Fataliyeva (AZE, 2377) emerged as the sole leader of the European Women’s Chess Championship 2024 after four played rounds.

Playing on the top board yesterday, Ulviyya Fataliyeva had white pieces against 15-year-old Ukrainian talent WCM Bozhena Piddubna (UKR, 2005). Fataliyeva gained a clear advantage from the early part of the opening and gradually improved it to crush her opponent without giving a single chance.

The top 10 boards yesterday saw as many as nine decisive results and eight players are now tying for the second place with the score of 5/6 points: IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO, 2447), WIM Alicja Sliwicka (POL, 2315), IM Deimante Daulyte-Cornette (FRA, 2381), WGM Beloslava Krasteva (BUL, 2220), IM Marina Brunello (ITA, 2353), IM Aleksandra Maltsevskaya (POL, 2393), WGM Govhar Beydullayeva (AZE, 2402), and IM Olga Zimina (ITA, 2299).

Playing white on the second board against the round six tournament leader IM Marta Garcia Martin (ESP, 2349), IM Lela Javakhishvili scored a win after only 26 moves of play. Garcia Martin underestimated Javakhishvili’s attack and the Georgian eventually built an undefendable mating net around the black’s king.

IM Marina Brunello scored a victory against GM Anna Ushenina (UKR, 2418) and joined the live studio to analyze her game with GM Alojzije Jankovic. Brunello had a clearly worse position but used her opponent’s mistake to convert into a winning endgame.

WGM Govhar Beydullayeva defeated IM Klaudia Kulon (POL, 2348), WIM Alicja Sliwicka (POL, 2315) scored against the rating favourite IM Mai Narva (EST, 2401), IM Aleksandra Maltsevskaya was victorious against WGM Olga Babiy (UKR, 2306), IM Olga Zimina took a win against IM Sophie Milliet (FRA, 2392), IM Deimante Daulyte-Cornette won with black against WIM Sofiia Hryzlova (SUI, 2251), and WGM Beloslava Krasteva defeated WGM Mitra Hejazipour (FRA, 2376).
